 August 16, 2022

The Independence Day celebrations took place on August 15, 2022, at New Modern College. The event was organized by the College Cultural Committee and saw active participation from students, faculty, and staff, making it a memorable and joyous occasion.

The celebrations commenced at the crack of dawn with the flag hoisting ceremony held at the college's central courtyard. The national flag was unfurled by the Principal, accompanied by the national anthem sung by a group of students and staff. The sight of the tricolour fluttering high amidst patriotic fervour set the tone for the day's festivities.

Following the flag hoisting, a series of inspiring speeches were delivered by faculty members, alumni, and senior students. They highlighted the significance of Independence Day, its historical importance, and how it symbolizes the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters for the country's freedom. These speeches served to ignite a sense of nationalism and instilled a deep sense of pride in our rich cultural heritage.

As the day progressed, the college came alive with an array of cultural performances that showcased the diverse traditions and unity of our nation. Students from various states presented mesmerizing dance performances, musical renditions, and theatrical acts that celebrated India's cultural tapestry. The performances were met with thunderous applause, encouraging the performers to give their best.

To add an element of excitement and foster healthy competition, the Cultural Committee organized a variety of engaging activities and competitions. The events included a patriotic quiz, a drawing competition based on the theme of independence, and a "Best Traditional Outfit" contest. These activities not only entertained the participants and audience but also promoted a sense of camaraderie among students from different departments.

In addition to celebrating our freedom, the college also utilized the occasion to raise awareness about social issues prevalent in the country. A team of volunteers organized an awareness drive on environmental conservation, gender equality, and the importance of education for all. Pamphlets and posters were distributed, and thought-provoking discussions were held to sensitize the attendees about their responsibilities as citizens.

To pay homage to the heroes of our independence struggle, a tribute corner was set up near the central courtyard. Students and staff offered flowers and observed a moment of silence as a mark of respect for those who fought selflessly to secure our freedom.

The Independence Day celebration in the college was an overwhelming success, fostering a strong sense of patriotism and unity among everyone present. It served as a reminder that the freedom we enjoy today is a result of the sacrifices made by our forefathers and that it is our collective responsibility to uphold the values of democracy, equality, and social progress.

Student Coordinator extended heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to making this event a grand success, including the College Cultural Committee, and student volunteers, faculty, and staff.
